Dear brother, I have written to you from Genoa but I have not got any answer
yet. I would a liked to have got some news of how you all were at home as it
was such a long time since I heard from any of you however I will send you
this letter when I have the opportunity as it might be some time before you
would hear from me again. If you answer this letter you must do so by return
of post and send me all the news of course. If you had answered my letter my
owners would have sent it through to me here you must excuse my short note as

Brother, you will be surprized at me not going to see you at all but it would
make me so sorrow to go and poor mother gone and Lizzie too Lord have mercy on
them. I hope you and wife and family are in good health. I send you these
few lines with Mr Adam GILLIS a particular friend of mine he is carpenter in
this ship and I expect to be boatswain of her. I came here from the Brazils so
you can give him a letter and let me know how Mary and Martha and Arthur and
Bob is and Dan. You might send a bottle of your old whisky. I will send you
