married 28-year old farmer James MULLAN of Slaughtaverly. Mary Anne's father

Irish News, Saturday 16 May 1914. Respected Co Down Lady - Funeral of late
Mrs STARKEY, Saul. The funeral of this highly-respected lady who was the
relict of the late Robert STARKEY, took place on Wednesday to the family
burying ground, Saul. Her lingering illness was borne with Christian
fortitude but despite the skill of her medical attendant, Dr DEVLIN, she grew
worse. She passed away peacefully, fortified by the rites of Holy Church.
She had attained the ripe age of 82 years, and the large cortege bore
testimony to the popularity of one of the most highly respected residents in
County Down. The chief mourners were Messrs Robert C STARKEY, Downpatrick;
Patrick STARKEY, Lisbuoy; Bernard STARKEY, Belfast; John STARKEY, Bank of
Ireland, Derry (sons); Mr James McKEVITT, Belfast (son-in-law); Mr James J
McKEVITT, Imperial Bank of Persia, Teheran; Mr Robert J McKEVITT, Bank of
Ireland, Belfast; Mr Patrick McKEVITT, Belfast (grandsons); Messrs William
MULVENNA, Whiteabbey; Terence FAGAN, Crumlin; William STARKEY, Quoniamstown;
Capt W Starkey; William GIBSON, Ballymena; Patrick HUNTER, Crumlin; John
BROWN, Liverpool (relatives);
[676]
On Martha's grave her birth and death dates are given (incorrectly) as
1 Nov 1835 and 12 May 1915 respectively. Mrs STARKEY's funeral is mentioned
in a letter from Mary GIBSON (nee MULVENNA) to her brother Willie, dated 14
May 1914. She says "I saw Mrs Starkey's funeral in Saturday's Irish News."
