According to Elizabeth GIBSON, Martha emigrated to Kenya. Jack MULVENNA said
that she moved from Dublin to South Africa and back to Dublin where she lived
at Dalymount Terrace, Phibsborough.
[Letter to her brother William, dated just Friday, Aldergrove]
Dear Willie, for the love of heaven forgive me if I said an offensive word to
you, but Sam did not know if I did and I did not tell him he raves about you
to come and help him to take off a cask of whisky. He wants it off for Xmas
and he does not like to ask a stranger and then later he wants you to fix the
byre. He will pay you well. I wrote to you some days ago indeed dear Willie
I know it is not fair to ask you but I will never forget it to you. Ever
your affectionate sister, Martha. PS Dear Willie if possible come down
tomorrow by the half nine from Belfast or the 8-55 from Antrim if impossible
to come send me a letter in the basket and say when you will come as this
basket does not belong to myself. You can bring it with you or send it.
[Another letter to her brother Willie, dated just Tuesday, Aldergrove]
Dear Willie, Sam wants you to come down most particularly tonight if possible.
I will never forget it to Mrs MULVENNA if she manages for you until you
return. He is getting better and for the love of heaven come. Ever your
affectionate sister, Martha. PS if you cannot come tonight come tomorrow.
I shall never ask you on the same errand. Again Martha.
[Another letter to her sister-in-law Margaret in Whiteabbey, dated 18 May 1914
58 Amiens Street, Dublin]
Dear Maggie, Many thanks for your kind letter duly received. I would have
written sooner only we were busy. Tom is anxious to go back again soon to see
you. I have some business in the north this week and I would like to see Mr
MAGUIRE the solicitor if Willie could come with me. I would go tomorrow by
the three train leaving here. We would be in Belfast at six. It would be too
late to see MAGUIRE so we will go on to Whiteabbey. We will be there about 7
or so I daresay but please dear Maggie do not put yourself about in any way
for us. Goodbye with kind regards to all and hoping you are all quite well.
Yours very sincerely, Martha.
[A letter to her brother Willie, dated 29 May 1916, 7 Dalymount, NCR, Dublin]
Dear Willie, I called with the manager of the Bank of Ireland today. They
want your banking references. I gave them Mr SHAW Donegall Place, I knew no
other. Please call with him and tell him. The Bank may write him today.
Tom got a very high place and will be called up soon. Kindly do this for me.
Much obliged, yours etc, Martha.
