I first learnt of the existence of a JP O'CONNOR from the recollection of
Rosemary MULVENNA (nee O'CONNOR), who reckons that he died in some sort of
accident, possibly involving a horse. She remembers being haunted by JP's
picture in which he looked very handsome, though older than 12. However the
registered cause of death was "Acute Pneumonia, 2 days, Heart Failure,
certified". Bridget KEARNEY (nee FRIEL) recollects her mother remarking that
[354]
Brendan O'CONNOR resembled the likeness in JP's portrait.
His death notice appeared in the Irish News 23 April 1914: "O'CONNOR On
Tuesday 21st April 1914 at his father's residence, Drumsurn, Co Derry, James
Patrick second and dearly beloved son of James O'CONNOR merchant Drumsurn aged
13 years - RIP. [His remains will be removed for interment in Drumsurn
Catholic Burying ground today (Thursday) 23rd inst at the hour of 10.30am.]"
