No hard evidence has yet been found to confirm that Francis and Mary are
definitely James and Thomas's parents. Their names came from a baptismal
entry for "James Edward son of Francis and Mary Connor of Drumsurn". Also
Francis Connor is listed in Griffith's Valuation (1860ish) around the site
of James O'Connor's and the present day O'Connor's house.
[464]
The valuation book for Drumsurn (PRONI 12B/31/19C) shows that in 1894
the property of Francis CONNOR passed to the "Reps" of Francis CONNOR
and then in 1895 to James Edward CONNOR, whose is name corrected to James
Edward O'CONNOR. To confuse matters there is another James O'CONNOR
holding several properties in Drumsurn around this time. Death registration
states that Francis O'CONNOR, widower, farmer, 80 years died of natural decay,
certified. Registered by Jas E O'CONNOR, son, present at death.
Will (PRONI MIC 15C/3/8): I Francis O'CONNOR of Drumsurn being frail in health
and desirous of adjusting my temporal affairs make this as and for my last
will and testament revoking all previous wills and testamentary dispositions
which are hereby revoked. I will and bequeath to my son James my property his
heirs assigns etc subject to the following bequests and conditions: that he
pay all my lawful debts and liabilities and the sum of one hundred pounds
sterling to my daughter Jane Anne. The above disposition or bequest of my
property to said son James is on the strict understanding that he can neither
sell nor mortgage without the consent of my executors or in the event of
either refusing B?or dying of my executor so acting. Further should my
said son either by neglect or by reason of drink or in any way injure or
expose said property to be wasted or deteriorated to the judgement and in the
opinion of my executors or which one acts in that behalf of which waste or
injury said executors or executor shall be judges and above being questioned
as to their reason or his reason for so judging said executors or executor can
enter on and become possessed of said property and pay of said son James with
one shilling or other sum not exceeding twenty pounds sterling as may appear
to them or him sufficient in which said property becomes absolutely vested in
Jane Anne her heirs etc. I appoint Rev E LOUGHREY and Hugh SHANNON executors
with powers as above, signed 14 Nov 1892 Francis O'CONNOR (X his mark), E
LOUGHREY. The Will was proved at Derry on 2 Aug 1893, the entry in the PRONI
Wills and Admons index states: The will of Francis O'CONNOR late of Drumsurn
County Londonderry farmer and publican who died 30 June 1893 at same place was
proved at Londonderry by the Rev Edward LOUGHREY of Dungiven PP and Hugh
SHANNON of Coolbaun farmer both in said county executors; assets 76 pounds 16s

[1080]
Bridget KEARNEY nee FRIEL first told me about Daniel.
He married at least twice. His daughter Frances told me that he once
worked for the store B. Altman & Co at 5th Ave in Manhattan selling Irish
linen. He also worked for Abraham & Strauss in Brooklyn. The 1900 census
tells us that Daniel emigrated to the US in 1883. In 1900, he and his
family were living at 130 Marcy Ave, Brooklyn. His Mother-in-law Eliza CURRAN,
[1081]
his unmarried brother-in-law William CURRAN and
his 8-year old nephew George CURRAN were
living with him at that time. Daniel's death certificate gives the following
information: Daniel O'CONNOR, 376 Marcy Avenue, Brooklyn, NY Tenement
building, male, white, married, born 14 Mar 1858, died 6 May 1917, age 59yrs
1mo 23days, Linen salesman for Abraham & Strauss, 33 years in the US, 33 years
in the city, father was John O'CONNOR (born in Ireland), mother was Margaret
CAMPBELL (born in Ireland), doctor was J. LONG, 208 Lee Ave, buried Calvary, 9
May 1917, undertaker was FOLEY? of 270 Marcy Ave, cause of death was Chronic
